The Yoga Warrior: Community Yoga with Rudy Mettia

If you live in Hollywood or Santa Monica and are in search of a challenging beginner or intermediate power yoga class, Rudy Mettia is an excellent choice. Mettia, a former student of the renowned Bryan Kest, teaches four days a week at Santa Monica Power Yoga West on 2nd Street. On Wednesdays, he gives back to his own neighborhood by providing donation-based classes at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hollywood.

This 10:30 a.m. community class is a real treat. If the cozy, wood-floored church hall doesn’t charm you, Mettia will. With a quiet Southern drawl, he leads his warriors through an intense, strength-oriented regimen with the perfect mixture of discipline and humor.

The best part: the sweating and twisting ends at noon – just in time for a lunch break over at the Urth Caffe.

Suggested donation for the Hollywood class is $8, though no one will be turned away. There is plenty of free street parking beside the church. Most students bring their own yoga mats, but extras are available for a small fee. Classes take place at the community room across the courtyard from the church. Please remember to remove your shoes at the door!

West-siders, please visit the Santa Monica Power Yoga site for more information.
